Mark Richardson is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on July 26, 1972 in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Mark Ashton Richardson (born 26 July 1972 in Slough) is a male British former athlete who competed mostly in the 400m.
Even though he returned to competition in 2001 Richardson did not show the potential was displayed prior to his ban . This was when he became one of few athletes to ever defeat Michael Johnson over 400m in 1998. Richardson never won the gold medal in a single race at a major competition and quit the sport due to having a difficult time recovering the Achilles tendon strain toward the end of 2003.
Richardson was banned for two years from the IAAF for failing a drug test on October 25, 1999. He was suspended on March 2000 and then was unable to participate in at the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney. He was found to be positive for the the banned substance nandrolone. However, he said he was unaware of the substance. Contrary to his other athletes Linford Christie Gary Cadogan and Doug Walker, Richardson accepted the ban but chose to not take his case through arbitration. The IAAF did reinstate Richardson in June of 2001, according to the “exceptional circumstances” rule. UK Athletics also cleared Richardson (as they cleared Christie, Cadogan and Walker) because they believed there was sufficient doubt about the motive to use a banned substance. The IAAF will overrule any such decision because they hold athletes totally accountable for their drug tests, as per the “strict liability rule”.
